Athletics to honor former professor, student-athlete

Auburn Montgomery's Athletic Department will hold a memorial dedication at the AUM Soccer Complex on Saturday, Sept. 5, at 1 p.m. in honor of former AUM student-athlete Lee R. Story, who passed away in 1985, and Dr. Philip Gregorowicz, former head of the AUM Economics Department, who passed away last year.

Gregorowicz was head of Economics for 14 years and a member of the AUM faculty since 1980. He was known as an avid golfer, reader and gardener who loved to stay busy. Gregorowicz was instrumental in recruiting international students, and he was an ardent supporter of AUM's soccer teams, which included many of his students.

Story was goalkeeper on the AUM soccer club team in 1984.  Through his hard work, he earned a scholarship to be a member of the first AUM collegiate soccer team.  Story learned of his scholarship honor just before his death.

Oak trees with plaques dedicated to Gregorowicz and Story have been planted at the AUM Soccer Complex entrance.
