Alumni Association plans events
for African Americans, Atlantans

The Auburn Montgomery Alumni Association has planned upcoming alumni events directed at African Americans and graduates in the Atlanta area.

The AUM offices of the Chancellor, Advancement, and Diversity & Multicultural Affairs will sponsor a reception for African American alumni on Thursday, Oct. 29, at the Marriott Legends at Capitol Hill in Prattville.

In addition, the Auburn Montgomery Alumni Association is hosting a gathering for Atlanta-area alumni on Friday, Nov. 13 - the night previous to Auburn's football game versus Georgia in Athens - at Sambuca Restaurant.

"We hope that both of these events are well attended," said Carolyn Golden, vice chancellor for Advancement. "We are always excited when we have opportunities for fun and fellowship with our alumni."

"Earnest Boyer describes the American university as one that both derives and contributes to its surrounding communities," said Timothy Spraggins, AUM's assistant vice chancellor for Diversity & Multicultural Affairs. "However, a university must first contribute to and benefit from all segments of its internal community. This reception in Prattville reflects Auburn Montgomery's ongoing celebration of its many internal communities that produce our rich and diverse campus."

The Atlanta gathering, Golden said, will be more about fun, fellowship and outreach to Auburn Montgomery's alumni base in the Atlanta area.

"We had an outing similar to what we're planning for Atlanta in Nashville last year the night prior to Auburn's game with Vanderbilt," Golden said. "It was at B.B. King's club and the attendance was outstanding and everyone had a wonderful time.

"This year we're holding the event the night prior to the Auburn-Georgia game, but we decided to have it in Atlanta since it's a larger city, but is still close in proximity to Athens. We're expecting another great turnout and anyone who comes and joins the alumni association will qualify for the chance to win tickets to the Auburn-Georgia game set for the next day."

The Auburn Montgomery Alumni Association is a group of alumni interested in the support of Auburn Montgomery programs and its mission. Membership offers a chance to connect with fellow alumni, renew relationships and take advantage of the opportunities and events offered by the association.
