Online Courses
What is an online course? Auburn University at Montgomery offers students the convenience and flexibility of earning course credits
through online courses. Online courses allow students to take traditional college courses in a virtual classroom. All online courses are housed on Blackboard, AUM’s course management system. Students participate in the online class by posting to online discussions, uploading assignments, occasionally accessing live webinars, and more. All courses are taught by the same talented professors who teach in the traditional AUM campus classroom.
What is a fully online vs. a hybrid course?
AUM classes may be fully online or hybrid. The fully online course does not require the student to meet on campus at a specific date or time. The hybrid is a combination of face-to-face class meetings and online communication and collaboration. The hybrid course could meet once a week or just one or two times during the semester.
Is online learning right for you?
If you work full time, have a family, or are not conveniently located near the AUM campus you just might be a candidate for online learning. Online courses allow much more flexibility than a traditional class on campus because the student is able to access the online class at his/her convenience and communicate with the instructor via email.
Online classes typically require the same or greater time and effort as traditional classes. Online courses have the same learning outcomes and follow the same strict standards for instruction and grading as in traditional campus classes. Students register for web courses during the regular registration period, receive the same credit, and study under the same regulations as all other students.
